Violin Lessons for Beginners

When setting out to learn the violin there are many options available for the aspiring violinist to learn to play the violin. It is probably best to take some violin lessons first before investing in the purchase of a violin to make sure you really want to learn to play this instrument.

The violin is an amazing instrument that was created hundreds of years ago and is still extremely popular as it produces the most beautiful and romantic sounds of any instrument. The violin is still one of the foundation instruments for any orchestra or classical band.

When searching for violin lessons for beginners the student needs to learn that the violin is recognised as one of the more difficult musical instruments to master. This is due to the fact that this instrument does not have and frets on the finger board to mark where to place your fingers to sound the notes. The violin is difficult to get use to because of the position the instrument is held under the chin. It takes many students some time to master holding the instrument correctly and utilising the horse hair bow properly. Most students will need a professional violin teacher to demonstrate the correct way to hold the violin and bow to produce the best sound and see what notes are played on the fretboard. This usually takes some time to master for most violin students.

One of the best ways to learn violin is to watch private violin lessons on video. The online violin lessons cost is very low compared to private tuition. Also you can watch the beginner violin lessons as many times as necessary to understand and play. There are many courses available such as suzuki violin lessons and violin master pro. And these online violin lessons are for adults and children. In fact it is never too late to learn this romantic and beautiful sounding instrument.

Purchasing a violin

When you are ready to purchase your first violin it is advisable to enquire from a professional musician as to what is the best type of violin for you. Violins range in price from reasonable to very expensive depending on the manufacture and quality of sound produced from the instrument. You will need to purchase a chin and shoulder rest as teh instrument is difficult to play without it. Additional strings, string wax and a tuner are also required before commencing beginner violin lessons.

Tuning your violin

Tuning your violin is relatively easy and similar to tuning a guitar. The instrument can be tuned from another tuned guitar or piano. The other way to tune it is from an internet online tuner which plays notes through your computer speakers. The violin on has four strings which are tuned to G, D, A & E notes. It is easy to remember these notes by the acronym GDAE or G'day (hello).

Holding the violin

The violin is held in the left hand and rested on the left shoulder. You should be able to hold the instrument with your chin on your shoulder without using your hand. Your left hand is for playing the fret board. When holding the violin you only need light pressure as the instrument is not heavy and the strings are easily depressed. The bow is held in your right hand and slid up and down one of the four strings depending on which string you are depressing with your left hand.

Learning to Play the Violin
One of the most difficult things to learn with the violin is the correct placement of your fingers on the fret board to sound out each musical note. This is a skill that only comes with practice and once learned is like riding a bicycle – you never forget and it becomes natural. Violin lessons for beginners will show you how to sound out each note on the violin until you are confident enough to string the notes together to form a tune.

Other Tips on Playing the Violin
You will need to learn how to read sheet music so you can play any piece of music on your violin. You will also need to understand about beats, octaves, scales and other music knowledge to become an accomplished violinist. The most important thing is to take your time and learn to play violin correctly and accurately. Accuracy and consistency in the application of your skills will help you develop more skills and quickly become an accomplished violinst.

Best set of violin strings?

I have a quartet stage coming soon, and I'm trying a violin for the first time. And, I've noticed that the strings sound terrible. Can you recommend a set of strings?

- the violin that I'm using has the information (if it helps):
-A.R.Seidel
-Hand made copy of ANTONIUS STRADIVARIUS
-Made in Germany 2008

Also, if you know good set of viola strings, please tell me

The best strings are the ones that work on a particular instrument. Different types of strings have different qualities and a set that sounds great on my instrument might sound terrible on yours.

Seidels are student instruments so there would be no point in putting on a set of strings that is designed to show tone colors that aren't possible on an instrument like that. There are some sets of strings that would cost more than that violin is worth.

Dominants sound good on most instruments, including most student instruments. For viola, you might also want to consider the Eudoxa Tonica strings. For more information, read this guide:
