Is there a difference between acoustic Guitar Machine heads (tuning keys) and ukulele tuning heads?

I have a new ukulele and im not happy with the tuning heads, i would like to buy different ones but most of the places i go don't sell them, i am aware you can buy them online but i would prefer to see them first.

The friction tuners are a one-to-one ratio so that however much you turn the key you turn the tuning peg. And if you own a less expensive ukulele with friction tuners you can bet the company didn't use high quality tuners. Let's face it they aren't going to put $40 friction pegs on a $80 ukulele. Thus why it may be hard to keep in tune. Gear or machine tuners work real well b/c you have to turn the key a few times to get the tuning peg to make one full turn. So even a less expensive ukulele will tune pretty well even with less expensive gear tuners.
You should be able to find gear tuners in most guitar stores. Guitar Center or just about any music store should have them. You may need to replace them with banjo size.
