Guide to Acoustic Guitars
There are two kinds of guitars, namely electric and acoustic guitars. The most common type of guitars is the electric guitar, due to the advancement in technology. However, for those people who understand the real value of quality guitar sounds, opt for the acoustic guitar. Acoustic guitars are those that produce sound, without requiring any form of electronic amplification. This is why it is common to find these guitars being referred to as natural sound guitars. They are referred to as acoustic guitars because they use acoustic techniques to amplify the sound produced by the guitar strings. Below are examples of some common acoustic guitars available in the market.
Common Acoustic Guitars
Yamaha F-310 Steel String Acoustic Folk Guitar: This is a beautiful acoustic guitar made from various wooden components such as Javanese Rosewood fretboard, Indonesian Mahogany, and Spruce. The Javanese Rosewood fretboard is used in one series of the Yamaha F-310 i.e. the fg series. The Spruce and Indonesian Mahogany on the other hand, is common in all series for making the top and sides respectively. This acoustic guitar is normally preferred by folk and bluegrass guitarists due to the distinct sound that it produces because of its larger and deeper dreadnought guitar body. It is also great guitar for beginners due to its affordability. Some of its advantages include low cost, deep rich sound and easy fretting.

How to Select an Acoustic Guitar
When you set out to buy an acoustic guitar, you have to take your time to thoroughly inspect it and even try it out, in order to determine whether it is the ideal guitar for you. Below are some of the things that you could do to assist you in choosing a guitar to buy.
• Check the wood carefully: It is the wood used to make the acoustic guitars that determines the timbre; hence, you must ensure that the guitar gives the desired sounds. If you are unable to determine this, take the liberty to test the guitar.
• Check for comfort: You can check how comfortable the guitar is by trying out the guitar. Acoustic guitars come in different sizes and designs; hence, you must try out the guitars that interest you to ensure that they are of the right size for you. The points of interest should be how comfortable the acoustic guitar is on your neck when you wear it, and the overall feel, with regard to the texture and handling.
• Amplification: Depending on what you need the guitar for; you must ensure that it has the desired amplification. For instance, if it is for live performances, the amplification must be sufficient for your venue to avoid straining. If it is for training, then your acoustic guitar does not require that much amplification.

What is a good acoustic guitar to start out with?
I've got an electric guitar, but I'd also like a good acoustic guitar. What is a good-valued acoustic guitar where I can get the most for the money?
I've read in several different places that the Seagull S6 is a great choice and is about $400. Do any of you know any other guitars that are a good value? They don't have to be pretty; I'm just going for the sound.
This laregly comes down to personal preference but you really can't beat walking into a guitar shop to try some out.
Take a blindfold with you though - it's so easy to be influenced by the name on the headstock, or the price. Generally you get better materials and a better guitar the more you pay, and that is largely true if you pay for a name giutar. You have to close your eyes, or at least ignore the price and name when you try an acoustic guitar.
The guitar will have to sound good and feel comfortable to play - that's where your personal preference will come in. The colour is almost irrelevent, but consider the colour when you've decided that you like the way it feels and plays.
Even the size of the guitar may influence your decision,but keep an open mind here too. My favourite guitar is quite small (Taylor Big Baby), so don't let the size or style influence you too much. If you feel comfortable playing it then the size doesn't matter, especially as acoustic guitars aren't heavy.
You'll find that the most expensive named guitars will 'mature' with age as you play them - that's due to the quality of wood, and the way they're made. When a guitar 'matures' it is said to sound better as it is 'played in'. Of course, that might be subject to personal opinion, but bear it in mind.
These days it's hard to buy a 'bad' guitar. They all stay in tune, look nice and sound nice, so you can't make a mistake when you buy one, unless you buy without trying it out in a shop first.
So give yourself a treat and try a few out in your local guitar emporium!

A cheap acoustic guitar is the perfect instrument to learn on, and many more people are picking them up, and beginning the journey towards a fantastic hobby. Although learning a musical instrument can be a daunting experience it can also be a very pleasurable one.
