The Hardcore Of Bass Guitar Basics

The very first bass guitar was created by the famous guitar manufacturer, Leo Fender, who added frets to it that made it much easier to be played. The bass guitar did have a much larger body than the electric guitar, as well as a longer neck and a longer scale length. The strings on the bass guitar are tuned to the exact pitches as the strings that are found on the double bass.

Many view the bass guitar as a transposing instrument since during live stage performances an electric bass guitar can be plugged into a speaker and amplifier just as an electric guitar is done. After 1950 the electric bass guitar had totally replaced the bass guitar all together. It is no secret that the different types of bass lines that are performed will vary depending on the type of music that is being played.

The bass guitar player has the same role not matter what type of music that they are playing. They must grab hold of the harmonics of the song so the other band members will have something to keep them in sync. They keep the beat and rhythm flowing. This includes rock, heavy metal, country, blues, jazz, and hip-hop. However, oftentimes, you will find that in funk, jazz, and fusion the bass guitar player is a solo act.

Some of the best bass guitar players in the world are George Harrison and Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers. It does not matter if you sit or stand while playing the bass guitar, but what does matter is that you continue to keep your back straight as possible. Always remember to make sure that your strings are in proper working order and free from debris.

When a bass guitar is create the best woods are used such as Alder and Ash for the body, but for the neck Rosewood and Maple are oftentimes used. When selecting your bass guitar be sure to take a long look at the wood prior to purchasing it. Be sure that the neck is properly bolted to the body and that it is not loose and that the fingerboard has been properly glued onto the neck.

These are a few things you must look at prior to purchasing your new bass guitar. Another thing that you may want to inspect prior to purchasing your new bass guitar is to make sure the tiny metal strips that are located on the fingerboard, which are called frets, are not loose and have been glued into place correctly. If the frets get removed, then this will change the sound of the bass guitar. Just be sure your new bass guitar is every thing you want and more.

Will a Starcaster Neck fit...?

Would a Fender Starcaster Strat neck (70's style headstock) fit a guitarfetish strat body?

Neck:

Body:

Hello there,

I have used a few Starcaster necks on project guitars where I needed a thick heavy neck to get good balance in a guitar. The heel is 2 3/16ths inches wide and rounded like a Strat neck, so it will fit into the neck pocket of any body built to Fender specs. The thickness of the neck can be a problem at times. If you have a body that is not as deep (thick) as a Fender you have to do some modification to get the strings playable.

The Starcaster neck is a older profile, a very thick neck, what I always called Fender clunky C. It is a much thicker feeling neck than what you find on Squier and Fender Strats. I have used mostly the maple fretboard Starcaster necks. You have to do some finishing on them. The fretboard is raw. On rosewood that is okay, on maple it gets dirty fast. You need to work on the fret ends. They are usually quite sharp and need to be worked down to have a playable neck. I have liked the Starcaster necks I have used (after I worked them over), but don't expect to play the neck without working it over and if you like thin necks you will not like the Starcaster neck.

I have not used a Guitarfetish body, so I cannot tell you how close to Fender specs they are. Many off brand Strat Style bodies are only 1 5/8ths inches deep (thick). That can cause problems with the string height (neck too high) or the trem block being too big. I try to stick to bodies that are Fender specs. By the way, if that picture is accurate, I would say that color is not surf green. Too dark, and not enough yellow. That looks like sea foam green to me. I have Strats in both surf green and sea foam green. That body looks like my sea foam green Strat. Also, I would not want paulownia for a Strat body. I would prefer alder for the modern Strat tone or swamp ash for the vintage Strat tone.

That is more than I have paid for any of the 5 or 6 Starcaster necks I have bought. Even the maple fretboard ones did not cost that much. You can buy a used Starcaster for $50 or so. Then sell the parts and keep the neck.
