What is a Great in-expensive($50?) set of electric guitar pickups for a Fender Telecaster?

Im an looking into buying a Saga electric guitar kit, the tc-10 model, and i had heard that the pickups were good but i was just wondering if there was any better kinds out there that wont cost a big chunk of change

You're going to have to go a little more than $50 bucks for a set of Tele replacement pickups if you want anything that's actually going to be an improvement over what you've already got in there.

Seymour Duncan makes several replacement pickups for Tele, depending on whether you want a vintage or hot rodded sound. But, they cost betwen $60 - $90.

Joe Barden pickups are also very popular Tele replacements. They're also very pricey, at about $160 each!

My suggestion to you is to get the guitar and play it for a while. Maybe the pickups in it will be acceptable to you.

I know that Saga guitars are not real expensive, and I always discourage people from putting a lot of money into an inexpesive guitar (you'll never recover it). It's better to save your money and get a better guitar later on.

True story...I was working part time in a music store in Killeen, TX many years ago. This kid brought in a $200 Ibanez guitar. He wanted me to do the following to it:

- Install Active Pickups ($190)
- Change out the tremelo to a true Floyd Rose ($210)
- Route a "monkey grip" in the body like the Steve Via guitars ($375)
- Refret the neck with larger frets ($275)

So...$650 into a $200 guitar? I showed him a couple of guitars on the wall that would give him almost all of what he wanted for less money, but he was insistant.

Something didn't smell right, so I asked how he was going to pay for it, and he whipped out a credit card. I called to check on the card, found out it was his dad's and called him. He hit the roof because his son told him he just wanted to get a set of strings at the store.

The dad was there 10 minutes later, and the last thing I remember was the dad motioning for the son to come outside.

Neither were ever seen again.

Greetings from Austin, TX

Ken

Each pickup re-creates the look and sound of an aged early '50s pickup. The pickup comes complete with screws, schematics and vintage "push back" cloth braid hookup wire. 11024-22 bridge (lead) pickup for telecaster® I have a great time re-creating the beauty of an early '50s lead pickup Tele®. Using vintage techniques, each pickup is hand-fabricated and scatter-wound. All parts of the pickup are aged and given the look of a pickup played for 40 years! Like the originals, the ferrous bottom plates are not wax-potted for that "breakin'-up Tele twang tone" that's just on the verge of feedback. The pickups are Dun-Aged™ and come with mounting hardware, schematics, and tons of tone! The hookup wire is the classic "p back" cloth braid wire. 11024-27 1955 bridge (lead) pickup for telecaster® (raised D & G pole) After early production of the flat pole lead pickup for Telecaster® , the pickups were manufactured with a raised D & G pole for better string response and output. These classic pickups had great sound too, and I wanted to re-create the look and sound of this classic.
