Looking for a good Roll up piano to practice on. Any suggestions?
Im really interested in learning to play piano. So im looking to find a Roll up piano that would be the equivalent to a standard 88-Key upright piano. The best i can find is a 61 key. Any Suggestions on what to get?
These only come in a 61-note version, because thee are *toys*. And they can run about $40-$50. For a very few bucks more - and even LESS if you shop Craigslist, Goodwill, etc. You can get a decent 76 or even 88 notes keyboard. NO, they will not have weighted action - unless you are REALLY lucky - but will be decent to begin on. The money you save, you can put towards LESSONS with a good teacher,- not the stoner at the local music store, but a degreed and certified teacher. There are no videos, YouTubes, CDs, etc. that are worth two cents - they cannot see or hear you, can they? Or you can lock yourself in your bedroom, try to figure things our yourself, and still stink after months. Your call.
Added - apparently, I have reverted to my old habit of being the Capslock Queen. Must be my frustration with the questions asked here lately. Always willing to help - but geez, I wish more people would use some common sense before posting something here.
Added2 - yes, there are roll-up computer keyboards that work fine. But the messages they send are much simpler - and one message at a time ( one letter). However, a piano keyboard is sending note, durantion, touch, etc. - more complicated. Those demos you hear the sexy Italian guy do in TV? Those are polyphonic, multi-layered demos *generated* one layer at a time by the keyboard, then played back over really good audio equipment in the studio. In your house - they will sound like Tetris.

Rock and Roll music is a unique style which uses parts of several styles including classical, country, folk, jazz and rhythm & blues. For those interested to play rock songs with a piano, remember that if one has never played this instrument before, it is unlikely that one can instantaneously play Piano Man with it. Like any other person who would like to learn this instrument, it is recommended that they take their first lessons and start off with something easy like Chopsticks. Eventually, this will lead to a progression in which the individual can begin to appreciate, learn and apply the basics in rhythm, style and tone.
Some key points to remember when learning to play rock music on the piano is that one must take the time to learn and read each individual note. This means that one should not simply learn how to play the chords. Do not forget that a piano is not a guitar so take the time and effort to practice more often.
In the process of learning the basics on how to play piano songs; one can begin purchasing CDs that contain their favorite rock music that are heavily influenced with piano accompaniment. While you listen to the songs, begin to pick up the tone and tempo. Also, try to examine one's favorite rock songs and figure out what key these songs are played in.
Next, you must move towards learning how to play the major and minor and dominant 7th. One must also start playing diminished and half diminished chords wherein a chord is playing two or more notes in a consecutive manner. With regards to a diminished chord, it is basically a musical chord that has a diminished fifth. While practicing all these, it is recommended that the individual continues to analyze and learn the sheet music while listening to one's favorite rock songs.

Note that there is a possibility that the rock songs being played on the piano might not sound like the ones in the CD. This is because musicians are known to be clever and skillful. Once you figure out how the melody and harmony merge to create the sound, you can begin to play around with the chords and improvise with the tones and maybe even add some of your own notes. This goes to show that most musicians do not simply rely on reading music but also jump at the chance to be innovative and creative.
