What is the average life span of a harmonica?
I want to learn the harmonica. I've decided to go for either a Hohner Special 20 or a Lee Oskar Diatonic. Which do you prefer and why? And what is the approx. life span of a harmonica? I've been reading online and people keep saying that the Lee Oskar lasts longer than the Special 20...by ''lasts'', how long do they mean?
Hi Jen you made 2 great choices the Lee Oskar is very sturdy Harmonica as is the Special 20 the Problem is when new players start learning they exspell to much Breath force into the Harmonica this bends the reads to a point they go out of tune with learners this can take months or just a few days befor the Harp is out of tune or the reed blocks to a point it will not vibrate to produce a note blocking the Hole..so when you start to learn do not use to much Breth force use a normal breath sort of like whistling a tune..i play Special 20's with a bit of care and cleaning they last a long time say if i played a key of C harp i would renew one 3 times a year but i play every day and jam on weekends and go to open mic nights so evan if they arn't broken i like to renew them so they are in top tune...the Lee Oskar is a larger Harmonica than the Special 20 so if you have small hands go for a Special 20..
