Is there better guitar steel strings that I can buy that don't hurt so much on the fingers ? I just got a?
Gibson guitar for my 6 years old and his fingers keeps hurting too much. Or should I get a nylon string one. But people say it doesn't sound as good as the steel strings guitar. Is that true ?
Hello there,
All steel strings will hurt the fingers until the fingers toughen up. That is common with every one who learns to play.
I do not suggest swapping out the steel strings for nylon ones on your guitar (if that is what you are asking). That guitar is designed for certain tension from the strings. That is the flip side of the reason you cannot put steel strings on a guitar designed for nylon strings.
If you are instead asking if you should get a different guitar (one with nylon strings) for your 6 year old, I think that is a good idea. Steel strings are going to be tough on young fingers. Also, if you have a full sized guitar, a 6 year old may have some trouble playing it. There are smaller scale guitars designed for younger kids and I think those are a good idea. I started my 6 year old niece on a Hannah Montana acoustic. It has a much smaller neck and she can play that. I cannot play it, the strings are so close together my fingers cover too many strings. But for a young kid with small hands, I really think the small size guitar is the better way to go. Give them time to grow into the full sized guitar.

Guitar $105.14 The guitar is a musical instrument with ancient roots that adapts readily to a wide variety of musical styles. It typically has six strings, but four, seven, eight, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen and eighteenstring guitars also exist. The size and shape of the neck and the base of the guitar also vary, producing a variety of sounds. The two main types of guitars are the electric guitar and the acoustic guitar (of which the three main types are the classical guitar, the steelstring flattop guitar, and the archtop guitar). Guitars are recognized as one of the primary instruments in flamenco, jazz, blues, country, mariachi, rock music, and many forms of pop. They can also be a solo classical instrument. Guitars may be played acoustically, where the tone is produced by vibration of the strings and modulated by the hollow body, or they may rely on an amplifier that can electronically manipulate tone. Such electric guitars were introduced in the 1930s, and they have continued to have a profound influence on popular culture since then. Traditionally guitars have been constructed of various woods and strung with animal gut, or more recently, with either nylon or steel strings. Lap Steel Guitar $60.54 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The lap steel guitar is a type of steel guitar, from which other types developed. Lap slide and resonator guitars may also be fitted with pickups, but do not depend on electrical amplification to produce their sound. The distinguishing feature of a lap steel guitar is that the strings are raised at both the nut and bridge ends of the fingerboard, typically to about half an inch. This makes the frets unusable, and they may be replaced by markers on some guitars. Other lap steel guitars are designed to be adapted between lap and conventional playing, or are modified versions of conventional guitars, and the only difference may be the action height. Roundnecked resonator guitars set up for steel playing fall into this category.
