Wet Mops For Hardwood Floors
My mother loves her hardwood floors more than life itself. The name of the floor is Brazilian Cherry and they’re the reason my parents bought the house in the first place. You should see how they shine when they’re all polished up. But even though these floors are extremely durable and supposedly easy to maintain, my mother spends almost all of her cleaning time tending to them. She likes to use treated wet mops to clean them. Whenever we have company, she’ll use a mop like the ones from Fuller Brush to clean her beloved hardwood floors.
Sometimes she even let me help. I don’t mind, really. We get a bucket full of warm water and start to clean. She calls it swabbing the deck. I laugh and she calls me “matey” or “squab.” Then she starts singing, “Yo ho-ho, and a bottle of rum.” We both have a lot of fun and laugh and sing while the floor gets clean. Before we know it the floors are wet and we have to tip toe to the kitchen in our white wet socks. She carries the wet mops after her, wet and wiggling like a squid stuck on the end of a gaff. She says the mops from Fuller Brush may look like something from the bottom of the sea, but they are good for her floor.
On Saturday night, my parents have a party. It’s their anniversary and everyone they know stops over to congratulate them. I have to sit at the kids table with Becky Lowe and her annoying little brother, Ralph. Becky keeps smiling at me and blushing as she looks away. My friend Trevor says she has a crush on me and that she wants to give me a big, wet kiss. I couldn’t imagine anything more revolting….I mean, kissing a girl? Everyone comments about how beautiful the floors look. My mother tells everyone how I helped her clean them and how she couldn’t have done it without me. I smile and nod my head, but I know it didn’t have very much to do with me. Those wet mops really did the trick and we didn’t even have to get down on our hands and knees. I guess product like those from Fuller Brush don’t even require that you get your hands dirty. Well, that’s great for my mom, but I’m a kid…I like to get dirty every once and a while.

What's the most effective way to get ride of dust and dirt stains from white socks?
Sometimes, I walk along floors that haven't been well-swept or mopped and I end up having dirt stains on my athletic socks. I throw these in the wash, but usually, after all is said and done, the stains remain to some degree. I want my white socks, after I complete my laundry cleaning, to come back white. Is there a specific detergent you recommend or any other additional liquid I should apply before throwing it in the machine?
Ok, listen up. I am the mother of 3 teenage boys, so I think that makes me a bit of an expert on getting sweat socks clean. I have found that using Ariel soap, or Tide, in hot water, with Clorox bleach gets them clean. I also use Comfort fabric softener, though I doubt that has anything to do with keeping our socks white.
And if your white socks are REALLY grody, I'd suggest giving them a twirl in a pre-wash before washing them as suggested above.

Steam Mop Review
You see them everywhere lately – steam cleaning mops. They are the latest craze in cleaning gadgets and as their popularity grows so, does the variety of brands and price ranges. This review is of one of the most widely seen and least expensive models out in stores today – the Euro-Pro Shark Steam Mop Model S3101CO.
It comes with 5 Micro-Fiber Cleaning Pads, a funnel and flask-style cup to pour water into the reservoir. Assembly is easy, just three pieces to snap together. It is very light, just 3 pounds and is backed by a one-year limited warranty.
Although the box states in several places that you just need to use “ordinary tap water” the instruction booklet inside the box suggests that you use distilled water. Use distilled water! Using distilled water helps to prevent mineral build-up and scale that you get with tap water and gives you more life out of your steam appliances.
The Shark does heat quickly and generates steam within 30 seconds, no kidding. The pumping motion of the mop releases the steam as you push forward. The instructions say that you may have to give a few extra pumps the first time, but that was not the case, steam was generated right away. The 20-foot power cord is plenty long and wraps up neatly against the handle when done.
This mop can certainly be considered an eco-friendly mop, as it uses no toxic chemicals to clean. Also, the mop pads are machine washable – they wash well, but lay them flat or hang to dry. Putting them in the dryer could shrink them or leave them out of shape.
Note – If your floor is heavily soiled or has sticky/messy spills, use common sense and clean those spots first the usual way. It is also a good idea to vacuum first in order to pick up extra debris you wouldn’t want caught up in the mop pad. You should also carry along a cloth to pick up any hair or dust that the mop pushes out in front of it.
The water reservoir is small, holding just slightly over one cup of water, so you might expect to refill it often while mopping – not the case. It only had to be refilled once while cleaning three large rooms and a hallway during this testing.
Floors tested with this mop included sealed hardwood flooring, smooth ceramic tile and textured tile. The steam cleaned the sealed hardwood flooring without leaving streaks and without leaving wood-damaging water sitting too long on the surface. The Shark Steam Mop also took away the streaks left by the previous mopping job and dried almost instantly. It was amazing!
On white bathroom ceramic tile and a slippery-slick tiled kitchen – both turned out perfectly and dried immediately, eliminating the chance of a slip or fall on the tile floor. The floors all felt extremely clean and sanitary with absolutely no sticky residue. It did not seem to work as well though on uneven surfaces like the textured, stone-styled tile.
Touching the mop pad after finishing, it was not soaking wet or dripping, but just moist – very surprising. In all, it did an admirable job of cleaning in a short amount of time. If you keep in mind that you will still have to mop the ‘old fashioned way’ with cleanser sometimes, this is a great option for quickly cleaning floors.
