How To Dress Like Fashion Icons: From Finger Waves to Vintage Style Dresses
New Year's Eve is right around the corner, and you know you want to get all fancied up — you're just not sure how. Why not take a cue from some of the greatest fashion icons of all time? If you've got the retro style dresses, the makeup and some Aquanet (for nostalgia's sake), you've got the look.
Let's start with Audrey Hepburn. A natural beauty, Hepburn always looked great, whether she opted for glam or something more subtle.
Audrey's most famous look was from Breakfast at Tiffany's, and is definitely the way to go if you're looking for all-out elegant glamour. You'll need a black vintage style dress, either floor-length, or if you want to modernize the look a bit, something shorter and possibly flared. Pair it with black heels. This look is really all about the hair — an beehive-y updo with short bangs and an optional small tiara — and accessories — a very large and blingy but classy necklace (diamonds and pearls, preferably), matching earrings and a cigarette holder. For the makeup, go simple: black eyeliner, big eyelashes, a touch of rouge and a dash of red-pink lipstick.
Next up is Twiggy. Twiggy is more or less synonymous with the mod movement; she was always decked out in mod clothing and makeup. Again, this look is less about the clothes than the makeup, but make sure that the retro style dress you choose syncs up with the sort of thing Twiggy wore. Focus on the makeup: make your eyes look enormous with a very precise line of black eyeliner above your eyelashes, a line following the contour of your upper eye socket, and lots of mascara on the top lid (make sure it doesn't clump!); load the mascara onto the lower lid, but separate the lashes so they stand out from one another, and use a very fine brown eyeliner to draw on additional lashes. There's a famous photo of Twiggy in a pink vintage style dress and big mirror ball earrings — find a similar pair to complete the look.
Finally, we have Madonna. Back in the '80s and early '90s, Madonna couldn't do anything without it becoming a trend. Because of her hordes of girls ran around with heavily teased and sprayed hair, lace, fingerless evening gloves and tutus. To achieve her look, go nuts. You can literally pile on whatever you want — Madonna was more or less the Lady Gaga of her day; the conservatively-dressed thought she was off her rocker. Wear fishnet footless tights, a pair of glitzy Chuck Taylors or Doc Martens, a tutu over a corset, and, of course, fingerless gloves. Throw on as many bangles as you can find, a headband with a sparkly bow and a handful of crucifixes for good measure. As for your hair, this is when that Aquanet is going to come in handy. Curl it and tease it. Use a very bright red-pink lipstick, lots of rouge and be liberal with the dark eyeshadow.
Follow these tips and you'll be partying like a rock star! ...Or movie star! ...Or model! Either way you'll have a blast.

Hairstyles for prom the will go with a mermaid style dress?
I am going to be wear a strapless mermaid style dress for prom. I have yet to decide on how I am going to wear my hair. My hair comes past my collar bone and stops right before my breasts. Any suggestions on possible hair styles would be appreciated. I was planning on curling my hair, but I don't know what else to do with it. Pictures please! Thanks!
I'm definitely no hair expert, but I think wavy curls would look beautiful on you! Especially if you have brown or lighter hair, though dark would still be very exotic.

Why are Maxi Style Dresses so Versatile?
If you have been out and about shopping recently, you cannot fail to have noticed that maxi style dresses are all the rage again. Even if you have yet to try one of these dresses yourself, its easy to see just why they are so popular.
Maxi Dresses suit most body shapes, since they are fitted on the upper half and loosely flowing at the bottom. Some women wear them with looser jackets or cardigans over the top if they are looking for a little more cover.
The dress is a long one and it drops to at least the ankles. Some of them are long enough to reach the floor, so you can imagine how wonderful it feels to wear one. The dress is also extremely versatile, thanks to the huge array of prints, patterns and colours that are available.
In fact colour is a big plus when it comes to the maxi. You can wear black and look very refined and stunning for a more formal party, or go for a bright and colourful design to wear during the summer, perhaps for a picnic for example. There are endless ways to wear a maxi dress and all it takes is accessories to take the dress from day to night.
By changing your jewellery, wearing a hat or perhaps adding a wrap or shawl to the overall look, you will be amazed at the difference you can make. Flat shoes can be swapped for heels too, totally transforming the look.
It's worth bearing in mind that while the classic design of the maxi is fitted at the top and flowing out gracefully at the bottom, there are alternatives.. The empire line design flows out from underneath the bust, and is a great style for women not wanting to accentuate. Problem areas like hips and tummy.
Some maxis also have long flowing sleeves but there are many styles such as strappless or even off the shoulder designs. Pick a style which suits you best, and is right for the occasion.
Most women would benefit from having a few different maxi style dresses in their wardrobes. No matter what the season might be you will find yourself reaching for a maxi dress.Once you have worn one, you will certainly want to expand your collection, and as you can see there are plenty of excellent reasons for doing so.

Dressed to Chill $4.22 Soprano/tenor saxophonist and clarinetist Marion Meadows comes from the smooth jazz sax tradition paved by Grover Washington, Jr. and George Howard. Though his sound is not a full as those two, he makes up for it with his lyricism, which imbues the twelve tracks here. Highlights include the "down-low" quiet-storm track "Miss Know it All," with vocalist Will Brock, "Dance With My Daughter," Me... |
