Properties of the wood used in the Tanglewood TW1000 6 String Acoustic Guitar
As wood is the most critical component in both the construction and final sound of a Guitar it should be viewed as an important element when deciding on wether to purchase an instrument. Certain woods are commonly used for the various parts of a Guitar and therefore an insight into the probable durability, longevity and aging effect on an instrument can be gained prior to purchase. The Tanglewood TW1000 uses Rosewood in the construction of it's Solid Body; this choice, due to the hard and dense nature of the material, will lend itself to both longevity and durability. As this wood type takes an excellent polish the comfort to the human touch when playing makes for an instrument that feels warm and friendly.
The Tanglewood TW1000 like most acoustical guitars worldwide uses a spruce top, the spruce wood being renowned for it's lightweight, yet extremely stiff properties. The solid spruce top projects mid-range tone better than practically any other wood which is very important in the absense of electronic pickups. The Neck being constructed of one peice mahogany is both durable and hardwearing and being overlayed with a Rosewood fretboard produces a complex tonal content. The warmer, more woody range of the mahogany being enfused with the richer and more high end sound of the rosewood.
Overall the wood used in the construction of this Guitar makes for a durable and longlasting instrument which feels both sturdy and comfortable to the musician. The complex and varied tones produced will round out further as the instrument ages. The resonance of low and mid range tones will be amplified by the dreadnought body design when being strummed whereas the mid to high end ranges produced by the spruce and rosewood will come to the fore when played using fingerstyles. What kind of strings should I use on a Acoustic-Electirc Guitar?
I just bought a Dean V-Coustic Thin Body Acoustic Electric Guitar, and obviously the strings that came with it suck so I need better strings. Should I buy electric guitar strings, or acoustic guitar strings.
depends on what you want to play...I use the lightest guage ernie ball super slinkys (Electric Strings) because i prefer an unwound G string and it just sounds better for what I play.
if you fingerpick you may want a thicker guage string. Flatpicking for bluegrass and blues recommends thicker strings but I like my light ones just fine...you obviously have to tune them more often but I haven't had a problem.
Buy a set of acoustic strings that are a thicker guage and some lighter electric strings, then try them both and see which one sounds better to you.
