Online Violin Lessons- 10 Reasons You Can’t Afford to Miss Out
If you’ve been interested in learning to play the violin or just increasing your skill level recently, I’m sure you’ve heard a lot about online violin lessons. The question now posed has to be, are online violin lessons really the best way to go?
I’m sure taking online violin lessons or learning any instrument online, for that matter, will be big in a year or two, but for now you’re worried about scams or quality. You’ve probably said to yourself, “If they were that amazing, I would have heard something about it from my friends.” Social proof has an implied guarantee of quality, but all products/ideas start somewhere. You may also ask yourself why it’s so cheap, thinking that might be indicative of the quality; no one could master an instrument at that price. There are two reasons that this is possible. The first is that, naturally, there will be a lower demand for new product ideas that haven’t been exposed mainstream. The second is that there are almost no overhead costs for digital products. You are just paying for quality information.
Now that you know why it can be done, here are my top ten reasons you should take online violin lessons today.
- The price is extremely low. In fact, it’s often less than the price of one normal lesson, but the price of online violin lessons will go up as more people recognize this golden opportunity.
- You learn from masters. These are seasoned pros that know everything about playing violin and can teach you easily. Quality teachers of this caliber would make your wallet cry if you tried to learn from them in normal environments
- These are complete collections of online violin lessons, designed to teach you from beginner to pro. No, you don’t pay per lesson, like you would anywhere else. You pay to master the violin.
- You get secret tricks of the trade. For example, you’ll learn how to increase energy and hand strength, sometimes in as little as three days! Not to mention, something violin teachers never tell their students…
- If you don’t know how to read music, they will teach you.
- Music theory is part of the teaching course.
- You learn to play violin in every style imaginable.
- Don’t have a violin? They’ll show you how to get quality instruments for cheap, sometimes even free. That alone sounds like it’s worth the cost of the course, wouldn’t you agree?
- Most have lifetime updates. Some updated frequently, so I imagine even if there was something you found to be missing from the product, it would be added in time.
- Some even go as far as to give you a 56-day guarantee. Try it, if it turns out it’s not for you, feel free to get your money back.

What are the best exersizes and etudes for mastering all the natural (and fingered) harmonics on the violin?
Carl Flesch "Scale Studies". Along with one octave scales and arpeggios, three octave scales & arpeggios, thirds, sixths and octaves, this book of scales has scales using artificial harmonics. For natural harmonics, you might want to simply discover where all of them are. Hint: the string is divided in half (octave) thirds (fifth) fourths (fourth), etc.

How to play the violin: here are five tips
You may have just attended a classical concert and you are inspired by the sound of the violin to desire to learn how to play the violin. Or you may be considering taking up violin lessons with an experienced violin teacher. It does not matter whether you are taking your violin lesson in Singapore or in London. It also does not matter if you have a violin teacher in Singapore, or you learn how to play the violin with a violin teacher in Malaysia. In this article, I will give you five tips on learning how to play the violin.
Your first tip: Learn the right posture
Firstly, you need to master the right posture when you hold your violin and the violin bow. Whether you are teaching yourself to play the violin, or whether you are learning how to play the violin with a violin teacher, stand in front of a mirror during you violin lesson. Look into the mirror during your violin lesson to correct any bad posture. Ensure that you are standing straight.
Your second tip: Learn to hold the violin bow correctly
Remember that you hold the violin with your left hand and your violin bow with your right hand. Since you need the violin bow to play on the violin, the violin bow acts as a natural extension of your hand. If you hold the violin bow correctly, your fingers do not cramp up.
What is the correct way of holding a violin bow? You will need to position your thumb at the groove of the frog of the bow. Your little finger rests at the end of the bow. Then close the rest of your fingers around the frog of the bow.
Your third tip: buy and use a violin shoulder rest
The violin shoulder rest acts to prevent cramping of your next when you play the violin. Renowned violin shoulder rests include Kun, FOM and Wolf brands. Some shoulder rests are made for people with longer neck. Other shoulder rests are sized according to the size of the violin. As such ensure you pick one that suits you.
After you purchase your violin shoulder rest, fix it to the base of your violin. You should be able to balance the violin between your chin and collarbone if positioned correctly.
Your fourth tip: learn to hold the violin correctly
As a beginner, you need to be able to hold the violin correctly. Using your left hand, position the neck of the violin at the crook between your thumb and second finger. In the beginning, you do not need to worry about fingering the violin strings. You just need to be comfortable with the basic posture and learn the basic bowing techniques.
Your fifth tip: learn to bow your violin
Finally, bow your violin right in the centre between the bridge and finger board. Play a long up bow on one string, followed by a long down bow on the next string. Move your arm straight up and down when you bow. Remember to relax your arms so they are not stiff.
There you have it, you have learnt the basics of playing the violin.
Now you need to continue practising and look for a good violin teacher to guide you.
