Question about guitar strings?
I've been playing guitar for about 5 years now and I have always used light strings, but now I'm curious about medium strings. I don't have money to just go and buy all kinds of strings otherwise I'd go buy some and try them out. Is their a big difference (playing wise) between light and medium, and what about sound? I've seen different types of strings to like light medium, and light top/medium bottom, what do these mean?
I'm only thinking about medium strings for my acoustic guitar, not my electric. The strings I favor the most are Elixir light nanoweb strings (I tied polyweb on my electric but didn't like them), when I can't afford those I use D'Aldario strings (I like them too). I've also bought some light Ernie Ball strings but I did't like them. Is there a brand you recommend I try?
I have always used mediums on my Ovation 1768C. I used to use Adamas but I recall using D'Addarios last time I restrung since I couldn't find what I used to use. I never really noticed the higher loading since it's all I've known. A friend of mine who uses lights on his Martin DX1 can't play mine, insisting the strings feel like telephone cables to him.
