Top Tips for Choosing the Right Wedding Bands/Music

It can be quite an overwhelming task to choose the right wedding bands/music and songs for your big day. After all, music is one of the most aspects of any wedding and can play an important role in setting the mood for the whole evening. Hence it is important to plan ahead and give it due importance so that the right songs are played during the ceremony as well as for the reception.

A sensible thing to do will be to break down the events of the day like seating of the guests, bridal march, main wedding ceremony, wedding march, cocktail hour or pre-reception hour and the main reception. The type of songs chosen for each will be different and hence breaking it into small parts will make the job easier. Select soft and welcoming music while the guests are being seated to lift the mood and make a perfect start to the whole evening. Bridal march is one of the most treasured moments of a girl's life when she makes the entry as a bride holding on to her father's hand. The song chosen for this moment should hence be a very special one which holds meaning to both the bride and her family.

While selecting music for the main wedding ceremony, it is important to have a word with the officiant especially if you are having a church wedding. There are sometimes, strict guidelines on the kind of music and songs that can be played during the ceremony. Also, most churches have a choir service which will be in charge of the songs that are played during ceremony; in this case, you will have to sit and talk with the choir master and decide the songs beforehand. Another important aspect while choosing wedding bands/music is whether you want a live band or pre-recorded music.

If you are having a low budget wedding, then pre-recorded music will the best option. There are so many online wedding galleries through which you can download the songs and music to be played on the big day. But if you are planning on a live band, then a little bit of preparation is required. Sit down with your partner and wedding planner, if you have one, and list out the songs that need to be played. You can include songs which have special meaning in both your lives which can be played during the wedding march or for the first dance during the reception. It will also be a good idea to thank your guests by dedicating special numbers to them.

A live band is best if you want keep the day traditional and with an old world charm, but if you want a modern wedding, then a live DJ would be the best choice. Always remember, it is not important to have the latest songs or trendy numbers to make a memorable impression but it is the lyrics and music that will leave a lasting impact on all the guests. So choose songs which have meaningful lyrics for the occasion and also a few dance favorites to get the crowd grooving.

Is Marching Band or band in general actually good for college?

Hi I love band and I love the teamwork that goes into it. Of course, I'm Junior now and been doing marching for the past 2 years of high school. The problem is that the marching band takes alot of space in my schedule and therefore I can't take some classes that I want to take.

I've been continuing Marching Band on the basis that colleges will look at it as something positive, something different that I do that differentiates me from everyone else. But is marching band a positive thing for college? Is marching band really worth sacrificing alot of space that I could use for AP classes?

Thanks!

I work as an administrative assistant to the honors program at the college I attend. I'm going to try to say this as nicely as possible... marching band does not differentiate you from other students. I can't tell you how many application essays the director of the honors program has read about marching band and how it builds their leadership skills. It's along the same lines as how playing a sport builds your leadership skills. A lot of people do that sort of thing and write about it in their application essay. I would take the AP class. It shows that you can work hard and study hard and are ready for college classes more so than students who didn't take AP courses. Plus, you'll still have your previous marching band experience to put on your college application. You can still include that you were in marching band because it shows that you did an activity beyond the classroom and were committed for at least 2 years depending on what you decide to do.

Marching Band Fundraiser

Want to know about a marching band fundraiser that makes you money during practice?

Have you considered holding a March a thon? Why not formalize one day of marching and make it your marching band fundraiser? Get people to either donate lump sums to the band for your efforts or make pledges for each unit that each band member completes. It is not unreasonable to ask band members to get pledges of $50 or more for the event.

Now, to make the fundraiser even easier, we suggest you use the online software at Choose-a-thon. Instead of handling all the necessary paperwork that these types of fundraisers require, use the tools at Choose-a-thon instead.

It offers an online solution that handles all the administrative and marketing functions pertaining to your marching band fundraiser. The first thing that needs to happen is your band needs to have a fundraising administrator. The administrator goes to Choose-a-thon and clicks on the Get Started Now button.

That will take them to a screen where they will enter their personal information along with information on your band and the specifics of its March-a-thon. The system essentially builds a website for your band and its event. It asks for photos to be uploaded to personalize your website as much as possible. The set up takes minutes.

The next step for the administrator is to invite participants to the event. They will enter the name and email address of every one in the band. Choose-a-thon (CAT) will send those participants emails letting them know about the website and asking them to build a personal page about themselves and their role in the fundraiser. They also upload a photo and put in a little text to make a page just for them. The administrator has now more or less done the majority of their work.

The participants then start to invite sponsors to visit the website that was just created. Sponsors are asked to make donations or to pledge money per unit. Inviting sponsors is made extremely easy in CAT. We suggest each participant go to their address book on their computer and enter every single name and email address in the sponsor list page on the CAT site. CAT will automatically send out an email inviting people to your website where they will see your band page, your event page and the individual page of the person inviting them. They will be prompted to either make a donation right then using a credit card or making a pledge per unit. All donation and pledge records are visible on the website and can be seen the administrator and participant.

Then you actual March-a-thon is held and units completed are recorded. The administrator goes back into your CAT website and enters those results. CAT sends invoices to all the people that made pledges and gives them the ability to pay right then with a credit card.

Following the completion of your event, CAT mails your group a weekly check for 80% of the money collected. That continues for 8 weeks. Every two weeks a reminder is automatically sent out to people who have not paid.

Next time you hold a marching band fundraiser, consider using Choose-a-thon.
