Automotive lift options
When choosing an Automotive Lift these days, it can can confusing with all of the different varieties available. Auto shop owners and home hobbyists have so many options to choose from. Which option to choose should depend on the application it is being used for. For instance, are you using the lift for servicving a vehicle, or for storing one car over another? Is it being used in a commercial application, or a home / hobby environment? When using a lift for servicing automobiles, you need to determine the type of service.
Many auto shop owners choose a two post lift for it's ability to allow the greatest access to the car for servicing. You get complete access to the underside of the auto, as well as access to the wheels for brake work and more. This type of lift engages the car by the frame, and there are no structural members prohibiting access to vital components. Most auto shop owners choose a two post lift for this very reason.
But there are certain reasons that garage owners would choose other types of lifts. For instance, if you are changing out a transmission or other heavy component, you might want to opt for a four post lift. On a 4 post lift, you drive the car onto a pair of runways and the wheels will rest on those runways. This leads to a more stable setup when you potentially have a rapid weight redistribution. A rapid shift in weight could be potentially hazardous on a 2 post lift if you're not careful. A four post lift is also much easier and quicker to mount a car on, because you simple just drive up onto it. Compare that with a two post lift, where you need to adjust arms and place them on strategic locations under the car frame. If you are performing quick jobs like oil changes, it is much faster to drive on and off a set of runways than to take the time to adjust arms to contact the car frame. If you need access to the wheels on a four post lift, you do have options. An option called a rolling jack can slide up and down the length of the runways and offers a way to lift the vehicle by the frame while it is on the lift, so you can have a full featured lift with a four post lift.
Many home car enthusiasts who don't have sufficient garage floor space also choose a four post lift for it's ability to store one automobile over another, while still allowing them to service the car as well.
A scissor lift is prefered by garage owners who don't have a lot of floor space, but want complete access to the car as the two post lift offers. There is access to the underside of the car as well as the wheels and body. Much like a two post lift, it engages the vehicle by the frame, but there are no bulky posts to occupy floor space.
Alignment lifts are available in both four post and scissor lift styles for purposes of performing two wheel or four wheel alognments. The four post alignment lift will be more affordable than scissor alignment lift. Once again, the scissor alignment lift is typically chosen for it's compact design.
There are other specialy lifts on the market as well. There are low rise and mid rise lifts that are chosen for more specific jobs, such as body work and brakes. There are pit lifts that are meant to stradle a pit in a lube shop.
Which lift you choose for each application is up to you, but it's important to choose the proper lift for your application.

How do i take a body lift off a truck?
I have a 98 gmc sierra single cab z71, and i bout it with a body lift on it, and i want to take it off. I was wondering if i needed any additional hardware like bolts to take it off, since the body lifts bolts are probably longer than the originals. If anyone has any advice id appreciate it, thanks
