Native American Hand Drums Produce An Enchanting Sound

Often as descriptive and identifying as headdresses, the Native American hand drum is a vital ingredient to Indian ceremonies. The drum is made by stretching a section of skin over the prepared wooden ring. Sinews secure the skin and keep it taut. These hand drums are used in a variety of ways by Native Americans. They are found at powwows, healing ceremonies, and simply to welcome the dawn. They are often used in conjunction with native flutes and rattles.

The Native American culture finds the spiritual and ceremonial life to play an important role in their daily lives. The aspects of Indian life have been cemented through the use of drum playing. Over the centuries the hand drum has been selected by Native Americans for use in different ceremonies. The proper frame of mind needed for ceremonies, is supplied by the hand drum. It is often used, as well, by individuals to aid in meditation.

Accompanied by hand drums, chanting, and dance, the history of a tribe is often told orally. The hand drum helps to maintain the rhythm of the story. The drum beat connects both the participants and the audience to the message. Both men and women use hand drums in ceremonies, although the women generally have a background role.

The life of traditional Native Americans depends on their attachment to both the spiritual and material world. The drum head is made of animal skin which is a very important factor. It is believed that the animal's spirit will help to connect the user to the unseen world. Combining with the heartbeat, the steady beat of the drum is thought to bring the Native American in tune with the surrounding earth. The use of hand drums in healing ceremonies is especially important, and is a focus for healing chants.

Drums vary in size from ten inches to thirty six inches. Most hand drums are double sided, giving a greater flexibility when playing, although it is not uncommon to see a one sided drum. Generally suspended from a rawhide handle, the handle itself is important in connecting the player with the drum. Padded handles are considered to restrict this connection, and also interfere with sound.

Native American hand drums can be played with the whole hand, several fingers, or with a beater. Most hand drums come with their own beater. Native American hand drums can be appreciated by anyone. Their music is unique and can add an interesting dimension to the life of the hearer. Most hand drums are decorated in some way; many are painted and add beauty to their surroundings. And, regardless of whether they are actually played, or are used as decoration, they can bring a bit of the culture of the first Americans into your home.

Second hand drum set? Help please!!!!!!?

I saw a drum set (second hand) going for 312.50 dollars on Ebay. My drum teacher sells (new) pearl drum sets for 800+ dollars. Would the second hand set be a better buy or the pearl set?

its probably best to buy what your drum teacher reccomends. Dont cop out for the cheaper option as its more likely to be warn and falling to bits.

Atleast you can buy with piece of mind of your tutor as you'll see them every week.

I bought a Pearl Export from my tutor and its a great kit. I got it 6 years ago and i still jam on it today!

Making Manual Hand Drum Pumps

Although drums with their lids removed are frequently used in industrial environments for storing dry goods and for simple disposal of inert liquid waste, there are safety concerns about storing other chemicals and liquids in this manner, and under many circumstances, getting the contents out of the drum can be a problem. Fifty five gallon drums are too heavy to lift or pour from, and so, having the right kit to get the liquid out when the drum is vertical and stable is essential. There are a number of different manual hand drum pumps available on the market that are perfect for the job.

One of the main concerns that needs to be addressed when selecting the right manual hand drum pump for your requirements is to consider the kind of liquid that you are using. While lightweight oils and other thin liquids can be pumped easily with a standard pumping system, you will need a much more powerful version to lift thicker oils and liquids such as paint, which have more weight to them.

There are many different styles of manual hand drum pump available to meet your needs, and various different mechanisms are used to actually do the pumping. The most common style of pump is the piston pump, which works in a manner similar to a bicycle pump to draw the liquid out of the drum. While this is not the most efficient system in terms of its capacity, or the smoothness of a the flow of liquid that it generates, these piston pumps are still very useful, and offer excellent value for money along with bullet proof reliability thanks to their simple construction.

Moving forward from the simplest vertical manual hand drum pumps, you can get more power and a more efficient flow by using a lever pump to get the liquid out of the drum. You will find that thanks to the levering system, you are able to manage to pull liquid from the drum at a much greater rate, while the effort required in order to get the liquid out is reduced significantly. Although these pumps are slightly more complex than the standard piston pumps, they do work in fundamentally the same way, and as such are highly reliable, although they still provide a relatively uneven flow of liquid.

If you are working with extremely volatile, corrosive or harmful liquids, then one of the main concerns that you should have is to prevent any spillage, which could cause injury or damage. The uneven flow caused by a lever or piston pump increases the risk of the liquid being spilled, so it is worth considering a rotary action manual hand drum pump. Unlike traditional pumps, which use a piston system to draw up liquid from the drum, rotary pumps work by creating a constant flow of liquid.

Having the right kind of manual drum hand pump ready to get liquid out of a drum will reduce wastage from spills, and increase the safety of the workplace. This created greater efficiency and can increase profits thanks to the reduced waste, which means that the pump is a vital piece of equipment that should be thought about very carefully.
