Playing Guitar Like Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix is considered by many budding guitarists to be of the best and most influential guitarists ever. At one time or another most guitarists have learned a few rhythm and lead guitar licks from the guitar great. Hendrix had a unique style which he adopted by playing with many blues and rock n roll players of his era.

Jimi spent a lot of time at the beginning of his career playing in the background in support of bands, sort of a hired gun if you like. But then success came when Hendrix formed his very own band and thousands and thousands of fans flocked to see him and his band play.

There really is nothing like the guitar playing of Jimi Hendrix. From slow bluesy numbers and flat out, amp cranked fuzz distortion lead guitar. A unique aspect of Hendrix's playing was the way that he seemingly effortlessly chopped and changed between rhythm and lead guitar riffs, and then went on the sing at the same time. Jimi's voice is sometimes critiqued has not being the best voice in the world but it went with the music and his guitar playing was the best.

If you play guitar and want to learn some of his techniques and get a sound similar to his then my advise is to listen to his music over and over again. Then get yourself a Marshall valve amp and an American Stratocaster. Hendrix also used a Fuzzface distortion and Crybaby Wah but there other guitar effects pedals around today to get close to his sound. My best advice is to listen to a range of great musicians and then develop your own style. This way you might one day become a guitar legend yourself. But remember, the most important part of learning how to play the guitar is the vast amounts of enjoyment that come out of it. Their are few things more fulfilling than the awe and amazement on other people's faces when you jam that classic riff from one of your friend's favourite tunes. So I wish you well with leanring how to play the guitar and remember never give up. Practice makes perfect. If at first you don't suceed...try, try again!

Will a fuzz box, overdrive, distortion and a wah pedal designed for a 6 string guitar work for bass?

all the pedals i find for 6 strings are like 30-60 but the ones i find that are the for bass guitars are over 100 dollars. will a 6 string effects box work for a bass?

The answer is "sometimes". It depends on the design of the pedal, the instrument you're plugging into it, the amp you're driving, and the sound you're going after.

Some fuzz and distortion pedals cut a lot of the low bass out of the signal. If you're playing with a very midrange heavy tone (like Lemmy), then you probably wouldn't notice it. If you like a lot of bass in your tone, you will.

I know a lot of bass players that use the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi fuzz (for guitar) on their bass and they're happy with it. That particular fuzz has a lot of low end to it. So for fuzz and distortion, you just have to try 'em out.

Wah...that's another story. That's a filtering effect, and wah pedals are tuned for a specific frequency range. A guitar wah is probably going to be about an octave too high to really work on bass. But again, try it.

A final thought...some bassists (myself included) play through two amp rigs. I'll play through a bass amp and keep that clean and free of effects, and will send a clean DI to the sound board. I'll also play through a guitar rig with all of my effects in line with it (and take a lot of the bass out of that signal). That way my low end remains intact, and I can still have my effects on top. That's most useful in a trio situation. With 2 guitars or keys in the band, I usually won't do that.

Good luck.

Tips To Choose The Best Guitar Effects Pedals

Guitareffects pedals are used by guitarists to change the sound output of their guitars. This change is brought about by a characteristic "stomping" motion which is why the guitar effects pedals are also called stomp boxes. Without these effects, the guitar will continue to play its own unique sound. These effects are produced by connecting the pedals to the output and input boxes in the guitar and you can decide when to use them.

Here are some of the many types of guitareffects pedals on the market:

Distortion which has been used in multiple music genres and creates a form of distortion.

Chorus is an effect that makes the original sound by copying it and then adding delay to it.

The reverb creates an echo of the natural acoustic sounds, which makes it sound more like effects within a closed room or beside the waters.

The wah-wah pedals produces a typical wah-wah sound as the name suggests.

How To Choose The Best Guitar Effects Pedals:

Check the various effects which pedals are capable of producing-the best guitar effects pedals are those that have the power to create many different effects-it should be able to create all the four basic effects like dynamics, distortion, delay and reverb and pitch modulation.

When the electrical signal waveform changes, distortion happens regardless of whether signals are digital or acoustic. This distortion is further divided into fuzz, distortion and overdrive. The best guitareffects pedals must have the power to produce all these three aspects.

In dynamics, the best guitareffects pedals must be able to produce volume, noise gates, compressors, tremolo, and vibrato effects.

The best guitar effects pedals must also have delay effects and echo effects that can even be generated digitally.

The best guitareffects pedals should ideally have pitch modulation such as phase shifters, flanges, chorus, ring modulators and talk modulators and resonance filters.

Guitar effects pedals are music equipment that comes in different styles, shapes, prices and colors. You should choose your effects pedal according to the type of music you play. The most exorbitantly priced one is not necessarily the best one.

Each of these guitar effects pedals can be used to produce unique and striking sounds and may be used for different forms of music. Whether it is rock or pop, metal or blues, the best way to know which pedals to use is to listen carefully to every effect to decide which suits your music the best.

As a beginner, you should ideally invest in the relatively less expensive models. You can get help from the Sounds Great Music website for helpful tips on how to choose the right kinds of effects for your musical instruments so as to improve the quality of your music recording. The best thing about this website is that you can learn how to mix and match different individual pedals or even invest in a multi-effect pedal, however, the latter is not likely to be flexible. Read through guitar magazines and fan blogs to learn which effects are more popular. Effects pedals may even vary from one manufacturer to another. It is wiser to try many versions of one effect.
