What is your opinion on these electric guitars?

I am buying my first electric guitar and I am willing to pay no more than $500. I will play all genres of music so it should be able to play all genres including metal. I want a great guitar that nobody can come up and say it's junk. What do you recommend? If you have other options don't hesitate!:)

My favorite guitars are both relatively inexpensive LTDs, ie an LTD EC-50 that I use to play "metal" and an EC-100QM that I use to play everything else.

Look, someone will always be there to come up to you and be a D-bag about how you aren't playing with this brand of amp or that brand of guitar - some people are just like that. I'm a bit of a tube snob myself, but I've discovered that I enjoy playing with an all solid-state rig.... it just kind've happened that way (also cheaper, lighter, very reliable for gigging). But there will still be (and have been) people who want to slag on me for not playing a tube amp, ie a Marshall or Mesa Boogie. I'm like, dude, I used to own a Mesa Boogie Tremoverb, I know exactly what you mean... but I don't care, this is what works for me, so go shove off!

I don't see a problem with any of the guitars listed. The only considerations I use are that A) the guitar feels comfortable to play, especially that the neck needs to fit my hands comfortable and that it's not heavy as hell since I prefer to play standing up, B) it's within my price range, since I'm going to rip it apart and customize it anyways, and C) that it has the basic tone that I'm looking for.

I should mention that any inexpensive guitar will benefit greatly from better pickups.... it's just the way it is. I've ripped the guts out of every guitar I've ever owned and especially upgraded the pickups, and always had a huge improvement in tone. My EC-50 has some generic EMG-copy actives in it, which sound good distorted, and my EC-100QM has some Seymour Duncs in it (with onboard buffer preamp etc) which give it a really nice tone. So what if it's made with basswood instead of mahogany? It has the basic tone I want - overall relatively bright (good for leads and cutting through the mix) with enough low end to have a good rhythm tone (ie chug chug chug!).

Basically I'm saying that it's more important to find a guitar that works for you and own it, rather than try to get something on a limited budget in an attempt to impress others. Dimebag used Randall solid-state amplifiers, Kurt Cobain used a lot of different cheap guitars and gear (although he did use Mesa in studio!), and few of the greatest guitar players started out with top of the line quality gear!

Do the most with what you've got. This is coming from someone who has spent thousands over the years in an attempt to find his sound - find something that works for you and take it to the max!

Oh yeah, but don't get a guitar with a floating trem (ie a Floyd Rose), unless you know how to properly work on it. The cheap ones go out of tune easily, and unless you know how to set it up correctly, you'll have a lot of buzzing/out of pitch/intonation issues that you'll have to pay someone else to fix for you. If you want a guitar with a Floyd Rose, don't go cheap.
