How to remove decals from a car

Removing a decal from a car can be simple if you follow the following steps

1)       Determine whether the decal is permanent (over 90% are permanent, though a new decal product has been launched that allows them to be easily removed). This can be tested simply by using your finger nail to try and peel the decal off.

2)       Determine the type of surface the decal is stuck to. If the decal is stuck on the window of the car, then a metal razor blade can be used to remove the decal. If the decal is on the painted surface of a car, we strongly recommend against using a metal razor blade as it's easy to scratch the surface

3)       For decals stuck to painted surfaces use either of the following techniques

1. Use a rubber pad, such as the Wonder Wheel which attaches to a standard drill. The rubber pad wears away the decal (and most of the adhesive)
2. Heat the decal with a hair dryer or heat gun. Use a low heat setting and place it only a couple of inches away from the sticker. While using the hair dryer, peel off the sticker with the other hand.

Note: if the decal is reflective, then it uses a different form of vinyl which is much thicker. These decals are very hard to remove and we recommend the Wonder Wheel for this purpose

4)  Once the decal has been removed, use a natural product such as Eucalyptus oil to remove any adhesive that is left over.

5)   If you are re-applying a new decal, ensure you clean the surface area thoroughly with tap water to ensure the surface is prepared for the new decal. If any Eucalyptus oil is left on the surface, the new decal will not stick properly to the surface

Hi, im getting my car inspected tomorrow and i have a decal across the top passenger corner of my windshield about 12 inches long. its set on an angle not straight across. Can i fail inspection for this? i live in new jersey btw

In my state you can have tint or designs from the top to about 4 or 5in down. That's because you don't need to see up in the air unless there's a plane coming at you.
