What is a good way of identifying notes by ear?
What is a good way of identifying notes by ear?
Should i just play all the notes a million one at a time until i memorize all twelve notes in the chromatic scale? And yes, i know about relative pitch and was successful in identifying all the relative pitches, but i hate having to listen to a base note. You know? I just want to be like, "Thats a C" or whatever. Does anyone have any intelligent methods to developing perfect pitch on all twelve notes of the chromatic scale? Thanks people!
Perfect pitch is often genetic. It's very uncommon to have it, but I have a friend who was just born with the ability. However, it is quite possible to memorize one or two pitches in your head and then use that as a reference to find others, I have somewhat obtained this, I can usually sing out an F or a C from memory. Just think of a song where the tonic is emphasized at the beginning, figure out what pitch it starts on, and then try to sing it in the right key much later and test yourself. For example, I think of a specific song that starts with an F Major chord on the piano and then pauses, and I think of that in my head when I want to find F.
