I want to do a lyric analysis for a History of Rock n Roll class and I chose this song. I am aware of the historical meaning of his references within the song, but who is "we" specifically? The young? The people? The innocent?

From my understanding the "we" he is refering to his is generation as a way of saying we didn't start this mess here how long it has been going on.
